2016-17 Season Summary

The Robotic Doges experienced another extraordinary season through the Velocity Vortex game and FIRST Tech Challenge program.  Our high school students successfully built a world-class robot, developed many soft skills through teamwork and communication in judged presentations and community outreach events, and expanded technical skills toward their future education and career goals

For the Velocity Vortex season, the team set a goal of earning a spot to compete at the 2017 World Championship in St. Louis, MO.  With hard work and dedication, the team exceeded their goals and previous levels of achievement.  In March 2017, they competed against 72 teams from the Northeast region and won the Winning Alliance (1st place) at the FTC East Super Regional Championship.  In April 2017, the team then advanced to Worlds to compete against 128 international teams.  Approximately 55,000 students on 5,540 FIRST Tech Challenge teams competed during the 2016-2017 season.  Out of these teams, the Robotic Doges - FTC Team 8645 were part of the "final four" alliances, earning the title of "Ochoa Division Finalist Alliance" at the 2017 FIRST World Championship in St. Louis.  The team was also thrilled to be one of 6 Finalists selected at Worlds for the Rockwell Collins Innovate Award.  What a year!
