Southeastern PA Regional Qualifying Tournament, Oxford, PA (01/09/16)
The Southeastern Regional Qualifying Tournament was our team's first judged event of the FIRST Res-Q season. Having made substantial robot modifications following the December scrimmage, we were very pleased with the robot's consistent performance and how much easier it was for the drivers to handle.
The team's hard work and long hours spent on the improvements paid off. We won 4 out of 5 qualifying matches, ranking 6th out of 36 teams, and earned a spot in Semi-Finals. We then won 2 out of 3 Semi-Finals matches with Teams Archmere Robauktics (395) and Igutech (6964), and then advanced to Finals where we lost after 2 matches.
Because our team grew from 5 students last year to 12 students this year, this Qualifier was the first judged event the 7 new team members had experienced. They all said the competition was much more fun and intense than they had expected it to be. Coming home with the “Finalist Alliance” trophy (second place) was a great bonus to acknowlege each team members' hard work throughout the season.
In one sense, winning the Finalist Alliance trophy was bittersweet as we were just 1 slot away from earning a spot to the PA State Championship. We are, however, very proud of the team and are looking foward to two more tries for States at our upcoming Qualifiers.
